Nuclear Orientation ofDy155andDy157

Abstract
The isotopes Dy155 and Dy157 were aligned at low temperatures in a single crystal of neodymium ethylsulfate, using the magnetic hfs method. Angular distribution of gamma radiation following the decay of these isotopes was studied as a function of temperature in the region 0.02°K<T<1°K. Spin assignments of 52 were made to states at 227 kev in Tb155 and at 327 kev in Tb157. Assuming I=32 for both dypsprosium isotopes as well as pure L=1 beta decay to the 52 states, nuclear moments of |μ155|=0.21±.05 nm and |μ157|=0.32±0.02 nm were derived.
