Abstract
Summary: The incorporation of 35S‐cystine in vitro was studied both in tissue fragments and in cell membranes from matrix tissue from bovine hooves. The mean incorporation of cystine into the cell membranes, calculated per μg protein, was about four times higher than in the tissue fragments indicating that the cystine receptors are mainly located on the surface of the keratinizing epidermal cell. The possibility of using cystine incorporation into membranes from keratinizing epidermal cells as a tool in investigations of the pathogenesis of laminitis is discussed. Keywords
