Abstract
THERE has recently been an increasing awareness of the effect on the fetus of certain medications given to the mother during pregnancy. If a drug passes the placenta, a dosage that may be safe for the mother may be toxic for the fetus because of its smaller body mass and its physiologic state. Knowledge of which drugs pass the placenta and may have a deleterious effect on the fetus is essential if such effects are to be avoided. There are numerous reports of goiter formation secondary to prolonged administration of iodides in adult patients with conditions such as asthma,1 2 3 but . . .Keywords
