Abstract
In recent measurements in the time domain on the fluxon shape in long Josephson junctions the fluxons were generated by a current pulse injected into one end. We present here a perturbation treatment of the fluxon generation which we compare with numerical experiments. The agreement turns out to be excellent. Keywords
