Gastrointestinal angiomas

Abstract
Preview Angiomas are a frequent cause of bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract and colon, and they tend to recur even after endoscopic coagulation. These patients are usually elderly and often have multiple medical problems, especially cardiac disease, which can heighten the seriousness of the situation if loss of blood is severe. The authors describe the use of endoscopy, colonoscopy, and arteriography to diagnose angiomas and the endoscopic devices available to provide palliative treatment of the malformation and bleeding.
