Abstract
Two recently published procedures for the determination of lignin in plant material are compared, using samples of Lolium perenne, and figures for the lignin content in relation to the age of this grass are given. After determining the tyrosine‐ and tryptophane‐ contents of a number of lignin preparations, arguments are put forward to prove that the N‐containing material in these preparations is protein of the same amino acid composition as the true protein of Lolium perenne. Keywords
