Abstract
A correlation exists between the nutrient requirements of F. hygrometrica and conditions in bonfire soil. Excessively high concentrations of nutrients especially ammonium-N are solely responsible for the growth inhibition found on young bonfire soils. Rapid healthy growth of Funaria requires relatively high concentrations of Ca, K, N and P, although nitrate-N and P are particularly important. The effect of burning and heating on the soil N cycle and the growth of Funaria on fertilized soils requires further investigation. This publication has 10 references indexed in Scilit:
