Abstract
The hydration of the silver(I) ion in an acidic 3.7 mol l-1 solution of silver(I) perchlorate in heavy water has been investigated by neutron diffraction using isotopic substitution. The average Ag-O and Ag-D distances within the primary hydration shell are found to be 2.41(2) and 2.97(4) AA, respectively, which corresponds to a tilt angle of 45(4) degrees . The hydration number as estimated from the peak sizes is 4.1(3).Keywords
