Abstract
The temperature dependence of the single-crystal elastic constant of rutile-structure Mg and Ti (rutile) has been measured between room temperature and 4.2 K. of Mg is seen to exhibit anomalous softening below 50 K, similar to the softening observed in Mn, Ni, and Zn, while of Ti shows normal behavior.
