Studies on cholinesterase

Abstract
A prostigmin analogue, the dimethylcarbamate of (2-hydroxy-5-phenyl benzyl) -trimethylammonium bromide (Hoffman-LaRoche Nu-683) inhibited selectively the activity of the non-specific or pseudo-cholinesterase, and when injected gave almost completed inhibition in the blood and tissues of dogs. Symptoms indicative of acetylcholine appeared only when the activity of the specific or true cholinesterase was depressed as well. Pseudo-cholinesterase played no essential part in the hydrolysis of acetylcholine in vivo.
