Abstract
We measure several hundred acoustic resonances in aluminum blocks. The statistical properties of these spectra are analyzed and compared to predictions from random matrix theory. A Poisson behavior is found for a rectangular block. The transition from Poisson to Gaussian orthogonal ensemble statistics is studied by measuring aluminum blocks manufactured in the shape of three-dimensional Sinai billiards. Keywords
