Abstract
MAGNESIUM deficiency is a recognized problem in protein-calorie malnutrition of childhood,1 2 3 a complex nutritional-deficiency syndrome prevalent in many regions of the tropics that is thought to be largely responsible for an estimated 21 per cent mortality in Nigerian children one to four years of age.4 A small pilot study was conducted to assess biochemically the degree of magnesium deficiency in severely malnourished Nigerian children receiving care at the children's emergency service, the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Nigeria from mid-March until June, 1964.MethodsPatientsTwenty-eight children with serious malnourishment between one and four years of age (mean, three and . . .This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
