Abstract
A new optical diffractometer is described. Its most important feature is a well-characterized light beam. The output from a laser is modified so that, in addition to being spatially and temporally coherent, the beam has a transverse intensity distribution which is approximately uniform instead of gaussian. The instrument is very versatile and may be used for a wide variety of experiments in coherent optics. Keywords
