Abstract
Administra-tion of cortisone or related glucocorticoids resulted in a decrease in the quantity of metachromatic material in the lesions of pretibial and generalized myxedema. In generalized myxedema the rate of disappearance of the mucoprotein was greatest following the use of triiodothyroacetic acid and less rapid in the following order: triiodothyro-propionic acid,J-triiodothyronine, and desiccated thyroid. In pretibial myxedema, the local injection or systemic administration of l-triiodothy-ronine appeared to be less effective than the adrenal glucocorticoids in altering the lesion. Keywords
