Abstract
A very promising development in research on performance appraisal has been the increased emphasis on the cognitive processes that underlie raters' performance judgements. This shift in research emphasis was brought about by disillusionment with classical psychometric research that focused primarily on the rating instrument. For example, research has consistently shown that rating accuracy does not vary significantly, irrespective of the type of instrument used. Keywords
