Abstract
The luminescent emission of rare gas solids excited by low-energy electrons is studied as a function of the sample thickness. The surface or bulk location of the self-trapped exciton centres is established. A new luminescent band is observed in the neon spectrum. In addition, the temperature dependence of the free exciton diffusion length is investigated in solid argon. Keywords
