Abstract
Using Gaussian approximations for multiple access interference, the Letter presents a closed form bit error rate formula for a simple multistage interference cancellation system for CDMA. The expression provides an asymptotic limit on performance improvement as the number of cancellation stages approaches infinity, and yields a minimum signal/noise ratio requirement for effective interference cancellation. Keywords
