Abstract
A modeling technique for the discrete-time domain analysis of power electronics and drive systems is discussed. A discrete model for a converter-fed DC motor drive system has been developed and simulated using this technique. All system components, including the DC machine and power converter, are modeled in a discrete manner as a network of transmission-line sections with the same characteristics as the drive system. The technique isolates the nonlinearity due to the devices' switching action from the system equation and enables a constant system matrix to be used irrespective of the switching state of the power circuit.
