Identification of 20 -Hydroxyhydrocortisone in Rat Plasma After Administration of Hydrocortisone

Abstract
After intravenous administration to rats, hydrocortisone-4-C14 was rapidly coverted into several more polar compounds, detected by paper chromato-graphic methods combined with radioautography. The most abundant of these is 20 beta-hydroxyhydrocortisone (Reichstein''s Compound E). This compound was glycogenic in adrenalectomized mice but less active than hydrocortisone. The authentic compound corresponded in activity with the material isolated from rat blood.
