Emission Cross Sections of CO2 by Electron Impact in the Interval 1260–4500 Å. II

Abstract
A survey of the most prominent emission features produced by electron impact excitation of CO2 over the wavelength range of 1260–4500 Å has been completed. Emission cross sections were measured from threshold to 300 eV for the and electronic transitions of produced by ionization excitation of CO2. Emission cross sections were also measured for the electronic transition of CO and the electronic transition of CO+ produced by dissociative excitation of CO2. The vibronic intensities differed from those for electron excitation of CO. In addition, emission cross sections are presented for the , 1304‐Å multiplet of OI, the , 1335‐Å multiplet of CII, and several atomic multiplets of CI produced by dissociative excitation of CO2. The relative energy variation of the emission cross section of the electronic transition of CO and of the , 1356‐Å multiplet of OI were also measured. The processes leading to these emissions are discussed.
