Abstract
A generalization of our recently proposed renormalization scheme for the density correlation function is demonstrated to be adequate for the description of various applications. The dynamical degrees of freedom of the core electrons and especially their relation to the pseudopotential theory is discussed. The possible occurrence of phonon anomalies is shown to arise from changes in the polarizability functions. Keywords
