Abstract
Using hydroxyapatite chromatography and transfer countercurrent distribution, it was observed that Neurospora contains 2 phenylalanyl-RNA synthetases and 2 phenylalanine-specific tRNA''s. The 2 phenylalanine tRNA''s are aminoacylated by different synthetases. Two aspartyl-RNA synthetases have also been separated, using diethylaminoethyl cellulose chromatography. These 2 enzymes differ in their specificity for the species of aspartic acid tRNA. The heat stabilities of the 2 aspartyl-RNA synthetases are very different. Neurospora contains synthetase(s) and transfer RNA(s) for L-asparagine which are distinct from those for L-aspartic acid. Keywords
