Abstract
A potent secreta-gogue has been prepared from Witte''s peptone which when given either by mouth or vein acts upon the glands of the jejunum. The active material contains no vaso-depressor substances and is thermostable, but can be destroyed by digestion with either erepsin or trypsin. Crude extracts of the small intestine of dogs or swine also stimulate intestinal secretion when given by vein in acute expts. Both fluid and enzyme components are increased. The substance extracted from intestine is thermostable and resists ereptic or tryptic digestion. The vasodepressors and the secretion promoting substance of the latter extracts are not identical for the latter is destroyed by boiling in alkaline solution whereas the former are affected but little. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
