Abstract
Gross fluid retention and increased rate of aldosterone secretion are characteristic of aminonucleoside nephrosis in rats. Aminonucleoside was given to adrenalectomized rats receiving "physiological" maintenance doses of corticosterone and aldosterone; the animals developed nephrosis as judged by hypoalbuminemia and hypercholesterolemia but they did not show fluid retention. When the dose of aldosterone was increased to a level corresponding to the amount of this hormone secreted by the adrenals of intact nephrotic rats, ascites occurred equal to that of intact nephrotics. The data suggest that hyperaldosteronism is responsible for the fluid retention of aminonucleoside nephrosis. Keywords
