STEROID BIOSYNTHESIS IN THE SEMEN OF DOGFISH (SQUALUS ACANTHIAS)

Abstract
SUMMARY: 11-Deoxycorticosterone, previously reported in the semen of Squalus acanthias, is shown to be a protein-bound constituent of the seminal plasma. Results of incubation experiments with [14C]labelled steroid substrates show that the semen contains the enzymes necessary for the conversion of cholesterol to 11-deoxycorticosterone via pregnenolone and progesterone.
