Structural Studies on the Carbohydrate Portion of Human alpha1-Microglobulin

Abstract
Human α1-microglobulin has been shown to have three N-glycosidically linked carbohydrate chains of the following structure: This structure was established by sugar and methylation analysis before and after removal of the N–acetylneuraminic acid residue and by using specific chemical degradation techniques such as Smith degradation, chromium trioxide oxidation and trifluoroacetolysis.
