Abstract
DIETARY measures in the treatment of hypertension have been advocated periodically during the past fifty years and have been extensively reviewed recently.1 The metabolic effects of the rice diet have been reported previously in abstract form.2 Although the most recent empirical program, as outlined by Kempner,3 is of limited value in the treatment of most patients with hypertensive vascular disease because of its rigid restrictions on diet, rather striking improvements in the level of blood pressure and general condition have been observed in some patients.
