Abstract
An aqueous extract of house dust was fractionated by precipitation with acetone, dialysis at 37[degree]C and chromatography on Dowex 1 resin. Four fractions were obtained; each consisted of a polysaccharide and polypeptide moiety. Physical and chemical data including quantitative sugar and amino acid analyses are presented. All four fractions showed allergenic activity in the in vitro histamine release test using blood cells from house dust allergic donors. Two were also tested for skin activity and found to be allergenic. Results are compared with findings by other workers on purified house dust allergens. The in vitro histamine release test for the determination of allergenic activity in the laboratory is discussed briefly.
