Abstract
An experimental study of the near-wakes of a family of flat-based cylinders of varying chord-thickness ratio, L/d, shows that the phenomena of vortex shedding and transition are similar to those for a cylinder of circular section. The Reynolds number for appearance of turbulence in the wake is correlated with L/d.Keywords
