Abstract
Rats fed polished rice, undermilled rice, and whole rice at a 15% plane of intake, as sources of pyridoxine, reproduced, but did not lactate. As little as 5% of rice bran or rice polishings in the ration produced about 30% success in lactation; 15% produced a lactation efficiency of 61-68%. When the same rations served as sources of pantothenic acid there was 90 to 100% failure in rearing. 15% rice bran and 15% rice polishings supplemented with 300 [gamma] Ca pantothenate daily produced over 50% success in lactation. The optimum growth requirements for pantothenic acid are about 3 times those of pyridoxine, for lactation, at least 6 times. Keywords
