Abstract
The genus Leucochloridium has been subdivided into the genera Urogonimus, Leucochloridium, and NEOLEUCOCHLORIDIUM. These genera and the genus Urotocus are recognized in the subfamily Leucochloridiinae Poche, 1907. The genera Panopistus and Urorygma have been excluded from the subfamily. Urogonimus is validated and removed from synonymy with Leucochloridium. 31 spp. are recognized in the subfamily. Approx. 120 bird hosts reported for these spp. are listed and the nomenclature brought up to date. Keys for the separation of the recognized genera and the known spp. have been constructed. The following spp. formerly placed in synonymy with U. macrostomus are actually different and distinct and are recognized as such, or renamed: U. witenbergiella (L. macrostomum of Witenberg, 1925), L. paradoxum Carus, 1835 (P. macrostomum of Zeller, 1874), L. heckerti (D. macrostomum of Heckert, 1899), U. caryocatactis (Zeder, 1800) (D. caudale Rudolphi, 1809, D. caudale of Mueller, 1898). The following spp. are reduced to synonymy: L. insigne of Witenberg (1925), L. sp. Hsu (1936) from Vanellus vanellus with L. heckerti sp. nov., L. sp. of Hsu (1936) from Pavoncella pugnax with L. paradoxum Carus, 1835, L. actitis McIntosh (1932) with L. cyanocittae McIntosh (1932) and L. pricei Mclntosh (1932) with L. variae Mclntosh (1932). The designation of Diesing''s species, D. caudale Rud. and IX mesostomum Rud., as Harmostomum caudale (Rud.) and Harmostomum mesostomum (Rud.) by Braun (1902), is in error. H. caudale has been renamed Brachylaemus brauni. Keywords
