Abstract
In 4 children with documented hypopituitary dwarfism human chorionic "growth hormone-prolactin" (CGP) elicited a sharp, reproducible rise in the concentration of plasma free fatty acids within 4 hr. when 100-400 mg was administered intramuscularly. The pattern of response simulated that of human growth hormone (HOH). The blood glucose concentration did not vary significantly from control studies. The apparent lipolytic effect of CGP in the absence of HGH provides supportive evidence of a growth hormone-like action for the placental hormone and of its important metabolic function during pregnancy. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
