Abstract
The synthesis of aminotetramethylrhodamine and its application as a fluorescent label is described. The label has an orange fluorescence and therefore is particularly useful for immunohistochemical staining of tissues possessing a greenish autofluorescence. With this label, serum from a chronic thyroiditis patient was found to combine with the colloid of normal thyroid tissue. The thyroid from the patient himself, which was infiltrated with lymphocytic cells was stained by rabbit antibody to human globulin in the region occupied by the infiltrating cells, thereby indicating the possible presence of autoantibodies. Keywords
