Abstract
Electronic energy spectra are obtained near an interface between materials of different effective mass, in a magnetic field parallel to the interface. The effective-mass difference is shown to couple the electron's motion along the field to its transverse motion. The coupling is described in terms of an effective mass for transverse motion. An explicit formula is obtained for this effective mass. Its behaviour illustrates clearly the existence of magnetic bulk-like states and interface states near the interface. Keywords
