Abstract
Isolation of a strain of polyomavirus, designated COL, from the brain of a patient with progressive multifocal leucoencephalopathy is described. The COL strain is antigenically similar to JC polyomavirus, previously isolated from a brain affected by progressive multifocal leucoencephalopathy and is unrelated to BK, another human polyomavirus isolated from urine. Immunological cross testing of viruses in the Polyomavirus genus shows that there are at least six antigenic types in this group. Keywords
