Abstract
Ubiqulnone (coenzyme Q) is widely distributed in the animal, plant and microorganism kingdoms including human beings. Nevertheless, little is known about its physiological actions except that this substance plays an important role in the electron transport system in mitochondria. This clinical investigation revealed that the hypercitricemia of patients with severe destructive periodontal disease was remarkably improved by the oral administration of ubiquinone 35 (coenzyme Q7). Ubiquinone, as one of its actions, may accelerate the utilization of citric acid, though the exact mechanism of this process is unknown. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
