Abstract
Paper chromatograms of protein-free extracts from chick livers contained spots which were identified as alanine, taurine and glutamic acid. Traces of glycine and threonine were also found. An unidentified spot, below glutamic acid, when isolated, hydrolyzed, and rechromatographed, showed the presence of aspartic acid, glutamic acid, glycine, cysteine and phosphorus. The liver level of this substance, apparently a peptide, was markedly increased by the addition of vitamin B12 to the diet. Quantitative differences in other amino acid compounds influenced by vitamin B12 and fasting were also noted. Keywords
