Abstract
The membrane glycoproteins, namely ‘alanine–serine’, ‘lysine’, ‘glutamate’ and ‘methionine’ binding proteins, specific to certain classes of amino acids were isolated from skate olfactory epithelium. They consist of two subunits: gp98 and gp56. gp98 is the only subunit which binds to amino acids. Some chemical properties of these glycoproteins suggest that they could be plausible candidates for olfactory receptor molecules in fish. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
