Abstract
The thermodynamics of thermally activated glide of dislocations held up at local obstacles and opposed by internal stresses is discussed for two classes of obstacles : jogs and separate obstacles in the glide planes. Expressions for fundamental activation parameters are obtained in terms of the experimental activation energy and activation volume. An illustrative application of the results is made using published data on the basal glide of magnesium. Keywords
