Inhibition ofTransitions within Self-Conjugate Nuclei

Abstract
It is shown that the strengths of transitions with no change of isotopic spin in self-conjugate nuclei may be expected to be smaller by a factor 100 than the normal strengths; the reason is that the matrix element for the particular transitions mentioned above is considerably reduced owing to an almost complete cancellation of the protonic, neutronic, and orbital magnetic moments.
