Glial-Nodule Encephalitis Associated With Generalized Cytomegalic Inclusion Body Disease

Abstract
Two cases of generalized cytomegalic inclusion body disease associated with concomitant myocarditis and encephalitis in 2-month-old, premature infants are described. Both infants were hospitalized in the same department. A typical inclusion-body cytomegaly was found in the center of one glial nodule in the mesencephalon of the first infant. Inclusion-body cytomegaly was also found in the lung, kidney, liver, and adrenal glands. A concomitant infection with the Coxsackie virus and the cytomegalovirus is suggested.
