Abstract
Drug Education in the schools today has “failed.” After more than a decade of intensive efforts, these programs have made no significant impact on the “drug problem.” In this paper the goal of abstinence will be discussed as one of the contributory factors for this “failure.” Implications of such a goal for society at large, the school, the drug educator, and the student in the classroom will also be explored.
