Abstract
SUMMARY: The factual geological background to the mineral deposits of the Northern Pennines is summarised and it is shown that the most favourable workings have been carried down to no more than about 0.4km below the present land surface. A few cases where lead—zinc—fluorine — barium mineralisation persists to over 1.5km are known in North America and suitable metalliferous brines are known to exist at over 3km depth. In this paper, the chances of finding further orebodies in depth in the present area are assessed from the tectono-stratigraphic and mineralogical-geochemical points of view. This publication has 17 references indexed in Scilit:
