Abstract
Strange attractors are plotted for the ionisation instability excited in the weakly ionised positive columns of helium glow discharges. The transition to the turbulent state is experimentally observed. On calculating the correlation integral the periodic instability is revealed to have a low dimension and the turbulent one to have a high but finite dimension. Keywords
