GROWTH CURVES OF SALMONELLA PULLORUM IN DIFFERENT MEDIA

Abstract
The culture cycle, through part of the stationary phase, of 5 strains was detd. in 3 media, viz., 1% tryptose-water, nutrient broth, and a synthetic medium prepd. specifically for these strains. Growth was determined by plate counts of samples taken at regular intervals from either the same culture or from a different culture. Growth of all strains occurred in the following decreasing rate order: nutrient broth> 1% tryptose-H2O > synthetic medium. The max. number of viable organisms in the stationary phase was higher in the synthetic medium than either of the other media which had about the same number. Comparable growth curves for organisms grown in the same medium, either 1% tryptose-water or nutrient broth, were established by both procedures.
