Aplastic Anemia after Liver Transplantation for Non-A, Non-B Hepatitis

Abstract
To the Editor: Tzakis et al. reported (Aug. 18 issue)1 a 28 percent incidence of aplastic anemia in 32 patients after orthotopic liver transplantation for fulminant or subacute hepatic failure due to non-A, non-B hepatitis. In our experience, this association has not occurred. Since January 1984 we have performed liver transplantations in 21 patients for fulminant or subacute non-A, non-B hepatitis. Sixteen are alive 5 months to 4 1/2 years after transplantation. Four patients were male, and 17 female; 6 were less than 20 years of age at the time of the transplantation.
