Abstract
Fourteen of 24 healthy Colombian Chami Indian adults had lactose-induced digestive symptoms after ingesting 50 g of lactose, an amount equivalent to that in 1 liter of milk. These results suggest a high frequency of lactase deficiency in South American Indians and thus, these results have socioeconomic implications. Keywords
