Abstract
Using the soluble supernatant fraction of a homogenate of normal human placenta and employing reduced triphosphopyridine as cofactor, the conversion of progesterone to 16α-hydroxyprogesterone and androstenedione was demonstrated. Tests were made of the radiochemical purity of the products. The possible role of 16α-hydroxylated steroids for the biosynthesis of oestriol in pregnancy is discussed. Keywords
