Abstract
Summary: The large amount of geological work carried out in the Lake District during the past forty years is summarized. It includes much mapping of the Ordovician rocks, which has resulted in important conclusions regarding the stratigraphy and structure of the area. Ideas regarding the later history of the district suggested by the revision of Carboniferous and younger rocks on the margins of the Lake District proper are discussed and an account given of recent views on the geomorphology and glacial history of the area. This publication has 114 references indexed in Scilit:
