Ultrasound for Juvenile Laryngeal Papillomatosis: A Preliminary Report of Five Cases

Abstract
The use of ultra-sound in the treatment of juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis is reported. The concept that this disease may be of viral etiology is examined. There is evidence to show that ultrasound inhibits the growth of certain viruses such as the tobacco mosaic virus and the virus that produces plantar warts. In our study of five patients the disease was arrested in three and marked improvement was noted in one. Only minimal improvement was noted in the fifth case. We feel that ultrasound is of definite value in the treatment of this disease. Further investigation and longer follow-up are needed to substantiate our findings.
